Tihar also called Deepawali and Yamapanchak, is a five-day-long festival celebrated in Nepal and the Indian states of Assam, Sikkim and Darjeeling in West Bengal that comes soon after Dashain. It is celebrated by all Nepalese (Nepali people) and Indian Gorkhas. It is popularly known as Swanti among the Newars.[2] The festival is celebrated from Trayodashi of Kartik Krishna to Kartik Shukla Dwitiya every year. Tihar, in general, signifies the festival of lights, where diyas are lit inside and outside the houses to make it illuminate at night.
